In honor of Juneteenth, we turned to our archives not to look back, but to listen. In a world that constantly divides our attention, on this day we choose to pause and reflect. So we asked ourselves what lessons, what visions, and what powers still live in the work we’ve uplifted? From 2020 to 2021, BCA presented Combahee’s Radical Call: Black Feminisms (re)Awaken Boston; a yearlong, multi-platform, and site-specific project honoring the radical legacy of Black feminism. Through window installations at the Mills Gallery, community conversations, and a free zine featuring the full annotated Combahee River Collective Statement, the project carved out space for remembering, reimagining, and reclaiming. We return to this work not as history, but as a living guide. Black art and Black thought, as championed by the Combahee River Collective and the artists of Combahee’s Radical Call, have always been at the heart of transformation.
