A few of my favorite things: As the mentor coordinator at LHS, I love listening to student interviews we conduct at the end of the school year and hearing the wonderful things students have to say about their mentors Students talk about doing better in school, improved mental health, how mentors help with specific life problems, and why they look up to their mentors as role models. I love sharing these positive comments with the mentors so they know they make a difference. The Next Step Lynden Middle School’s 8th graders are preparing for high school, and a key benefit of our program is that existing mentor-mentee matches can transition to the LHS in next school year. Recently, one mentee approached me, eager to continue meeting her mentor next fall.
