Our PartnerSHIP Crew* joined @univmiami University of Miami’s Rescue A Reef @rescueareef program to actively heal our disappearing coral ecosystems. Both snorkelers and divers transplanted coral fragments from their nursery site to reef restoration sites. We attached the coral fragments to eco-concrete pucks and affixed them to the seafloor.   These coral babies will grow up to create new habitat structures that protect coastlines, support fisheries habitat, and help to reverse the decline of this ancient, fragile, and valuable ecosystem.   This hands-on restoration demonstrates how community action directly addresses environmental damage. Each coral we plant becomes a foundation for biodiversity recovery and coastal resilience, proving that strategic intervention can reverse ecological harm.    Miami Waterkeeper has partnered with Rescue a Reef for years, even directing settlement funding from the PortMiami dredging litigation to support their restoration of 10,000 Endangered Species Act-listed staghorn corals.    *The PartnerSHIP Crew are our major donors who invest unrestricted funding in our work.
