The Nittany Valley Legends 6th Grade Blue Team played a strong game against a tough Tyrone team that pressured them the entire game. The Legends were able to handle the pressure and generated and capitalized on many good scoring chances. The Legends fast play led to many fouls and their solid foul shooting led to more points. The Legends scored on some nice fast breaks on passes from Serenity Shinka (2 assists, 9 steals, 9 points) to Emma Radio (1 rebound, 2 steals, 1 block, 3 points) and Eliana Krentzman (3 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 4 points). Shinka scored on a fast break and then Maddie Saltsgiver (11 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 blocks, 9 points) scored on a nice inside move. Krentzman moved the ball around well and hit Saltsgiver with a lob pass and Saltsgiver executed a nice drop step to score. Serena “Shifty” Mikesic (1 assist, 1 rebound, 1 block) and Sloane “Sly” Shetler did a solid job inbounding the ball against the press and Radio and Saltzgiver took passes to break the press. In the second half Mikesic hit Krentzman with a perfect inbound pass which Krentzman converted into a layup. Grace Lichtig, Sylvia Crider (1 rebound) and Mona “Mojo” Jackson all contributed on the defensive end. Saltsgiver led giver led the team with 11 rebounds. Shinka and Saltsgiver led the team with 9 points. Krentzman led with 3 assists and Shinka led with 9 steals. The Legends took 15 foul shots and converted 7. The Legends are now 3-1 on the season. The Nittany Valley Legends 5/6th grade White Team took on a very talented Bishop Guilfoyle team at the JMC. Despite their best efforts, the Legends struggled to find the basket, although they moved the ball well and battled hard. Layna Bell (4 rebounds, 4 steals), Serena “Shifty” Mikesic (4 rebounds, 1 block, 2 points), and Sylvie Crider (4 rebounds, 1 steal) led the way with 4 rebounds each. Mona “Mojo” Jackson (2 assists) threw two beautiful passes leading to baskets from Sloane “Sly” Shetler (2 steals, 2 points) and Mikesic. Bell led the team with 4 steals. Grace Lichtig played strong defense, especially in transition. Murwat Jalali earned some good scoring chances towards the end of the game. (fb)
