Celebrate Pope Leo XIV and Walk Through Chicago's Rich Maritime History on June 14 in Bridgeport. Guaranteed Rate Field in Bridgeport is expecting a sellout crowd for the mass celebrating Pope Leo XIV on Saturday, June 14. The event starts at 2:30 p.m. If you're joining the faithful that day, why not stop in earlier at the Chicago Maritime Museum in the Bridgeport Art Center? We open at 10:00 a.m. so you'll have plenty of time to tour the museum before festivities begin at Sox Park. The museum offers visitors a chronological walk through local maritime history including the eras of French fur traders, sail and steam-powered vessels, modern commercial Great Lakes frigates and recreational sailing. Our South Gallery features two of our latest exhibits on the Lady Elgin, the deadliest disaster on the open waters of the Great Lakes and on Chicago native Captain Bill Pinkney, the first Black sailor to solo-circumnavigate the globe around the five Great Capes. Also, don't miss our newest temporary exhibit Maritime Midwest Modern, documenting the architecture and built environment of the Midwest, with a focus on the legacy of Art Deco and Modernist design across the region. We are located on the River Level of the Bridgeport Art Center at 35th Street and Racine Ave. Enter from the North Lot.
