According to the National Coalition for Literacy: In the United States, low literacy among adults is closely linked to higher unemployment, lower incomes, and increased dependence on social assistance programs. When adults struggle to read, fill out forms, understand instructions, or navigate digital tools, it affects every part of their lives—from job opportunities to health care, from parenting to financial stability. At LVK, we believe in changing lives through literacy. By helping adults strengthen their reading, writing, and communication skills, we open the door to self-sufficiency, confidence, and opportunity. Want to make a difference? Our Mission The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec is to improve reading writing and related literacy skills of adults so each individual may reach their potential and to promote and advocate for literacy. Our Statement of Values In fulfilling its mission to help each individual reach their potential LVK is committed to recognizing the value of each individual to treating each individual with respect and compassion to partnering with other service organizations and to be welcoming to all who seek our services. Dolly Partons Imagination Library of Kennebec County As the worlds leading program for giving books to young children the Imagination Library has proven its impact through years of remarkable achievements. Whether the invaluable time spent reading with a child or the effects on early childhood literacy factors that have lifelong effects the Imagination Library has a farreaching spectrum of impact from both the measurable to the immeasurable.
