PET SCREEN BIRD COLLISION PROOF WINDOW COVERING! Birds are frequent victims of window strikes due to the reflection of the sky and trees, in the glass. The reflection gives the appearance of an open space they can fly through. For the past year, we at REGI have been trying a new idea to prevent bird window collisions. There are several commercial product’s sold for this purpose including popular window “clings”, to the more technical, and more challenging to apply, “dots” or lines. No matter which method you use, we at REGI are grateful to you for thinking about the safety of wild birds I admit, our screen method was tried purely for durability and ease of installation. It has turned out to be our most successful method to prevent window strikes to date. You can see through the screen. (If you want to take photos simply pull the screen up. ) Our screens were attached a year ago and we have not had single bird collision. Fiberglass screen is extremely durable and no maintenance has been required. We use “pet screen”, although any fiberglass window screen will work. The screen is stapled above the window frame. The screen is attached only at the top of the window. The wind moving the screen is a visual deterrent for birds as well. The best thing, it installed in a few minutes, is durable and requires no care. Give it a try if you want something low tech easy, inexpensive and successful to prevent window hits. Remember, bird deaths due to window strikes are not remotely “natural”. It has nothing to do with wild birds natural mortality. It is human caused. The birds are all healthy and well. They simply see the reflection of sky and trees in the glass and it appears to them that they can fly through the area covered with window glass. Sadly that is not so. Let us know your thoughts. (fb)
