Celebrating 130 Years of Caring – Where It All Began In 1893, a group of pastors came together with a vision to serve vulnerable children and the elderly in Northern Illinois. That meeting was the seed that grew into what is now Embrace Living Communities. By 1895, we officially began as the Deutscher Evangelisch Waisenhaus und Altenheim Verein von Nord, later renamed the German Evangelical Orphanage & Old People’s Home Society of Northern Illinois. From those humble beginnings, with a children’s wing, foster care, a chapel, and a gym, we committed to providing care, dignity, and community. Today, we serve over 2,500 residents in 29 communities, continuing that same mission with pride.
