“Our seniors have given so much of themselves to their families, neighborhoods, and this city over the years,” said Rhonda Benton, UCC Youth, Family, and Senior Services Department Senior Coordinator. “Events like the Senior Prom are our way of giving back and showing them they are appreciated, loved, and still have every reason to celebrate life with joy, dignity, and community.” UCC brought joy, connection, and celebration to Greater Newark’s senior community with the second annual Senior Prom, held September 26 at the West Side Park Community Center. This year’s theme, “A Night of Elegance: A Black and White Affair,” transformed the evening into a stylish celebration filled with music, dancing, delicious food, and plenty of smiles. Seniors came dressed to impress in their finest black-and-white attire, enjoying a night that honored not just their presence in the community, but the wealth of wisdom and experience they bring. Events like the Senior Prom are vital in keeping older adults engaged, connected, and celebrated. For many seniors, opportunities to socialize can be limited, and gatherings like these provide a chance to share laughter, make memories, and feel valued. Beyond the fun, the evening was a reminder of the strong sense of community that UCC strives to nurture through its Youth, Family, and Senior Services Department.
