Today’s spotlight shines on Coles Elementary and McGinn Elementary! 🏫 Coles Elementary The EEF awarded a grant to Kari Weinglass for Grades K–4 for VersaTiles Learning. This grant supports the purchase of math and reading VersaTiles, providing students with individualized, hands-on learning tools that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and core academic skills. Designed for tactile, visual, and interactive learners, VersaTiles are especially effective in supporting IEP goals and enrichment opportunities. 🏫 McGinn Elementary The EEF awarded two grants to John Lohn and Sasha Slocum for An Interactive Trip Around the World and Make What’s on Your Mind? Student-Led 3D Printing Designs to Enhance Curricular Experiences. An Interactive Trip Around the World gives K–4 students the opportunity to explore global cultures, geography, animals, and more using the Orboot Earth Globe—an app-enabled interactive learning tool that fosters curiosity and global awareness. Make What’s on Your Mind? Student-Led 3D Printing Designs introduces safe, student-friendly 3D printing across all grade levels, beginning with upper elementary. Students will research, design, and build project components, tools, and more—encouraging interdisciplinary learning and empowering them to bring their ideas to life. Today, we highlight: Brunner Elementary, Evergreen Elementary, & School One Elementary 🏫 Brunner Elementary: We awarded two grants to Charlene Hall, Gabriella Marino, Genna Pepe, and Heather Terantino, both for Grade 3, for Chomp, Chomp, Chomp... Let's Take a Bite Out of STEM and What's the Reason? Chomp, Chomp, Chomp embodies invention, innovation, design, and engineering, challenging students to think creatively as they design and build everything from simple cars tied to the current Motion unit in the FOSS science curriculum to imaginative arcade games made entirely from recycled cardboard. This hands-on project fosters problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration while bringing science and engineering standards to life through play and purposeful making. What’s the Reason? supports the development of critical thinking and logical reasoning skills in third-grade students through engaging, hands-on activities. The grant will fund a variety of educational games—including puzzles, strategy board games, and team-based activities—all designed to strengthen reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. 🏫 Evergreen Elementary: We awarded a grant to Paige Kovacs, Allison Santry, Jaclyn Pillinger, and Caitlyn Kube for Sensory Safe Outdoor Play for Grades K–4. This grant supports the safety and sensory needs of our students during recess. Many students in self-contained classrooms require close supervision throughout the day, especially during outdoor activities. Because the main recess areas at Evergreen are not fenced in, allowing students full access to the playground, field, and blacktop creates significant safety concerns. 🏫 School One Elementary: We awarded a grant to Ellen Young and Jennifer Glackin for Voices of the Future: Mobile Podcast Studio for Grade 4. This initiative will add a mobile podcast studio to enhance students’ learning by integrating research skills, opinion writing, and technology. The project empowers students to express their thoughts, ideas, and creativity in a dynamic and engaging way—fostering confidence, communication skills, and a deeper connection to their learning. We also awarded a grant to Katherine Szczubelek for Bright Paths to Discovery: Innovating Play with Light and Motion for Kindergarten. This project enhances hands-on, play-based learning through the addition of a light table and rubber ramps. The light table will spark creativity and sensory exploration, while the rubber ramps will support foundational STEM learning by encouraging open-ended exploration of motion, force, and gravity. Together, these engaging tools will foster 21st-century skills and nurture curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of discovery.
