On Tuesday July 29, 2025 at approximately 8:30 PM North Brunswick First Aid and Rescue Squad (NBFARS) was requested into Plainsboro, NJ to assist Local EMS and Fire partners along with the Middlesex County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the NJ EMS Task Force in the long arduous task of evacuating The Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center. Evacuation of the facility was ordered as a result of an electrical malfunction caused by a damaged sprinkler system. Chief Lisa Grande, Captain Ankit Choubey, EMT Matt Poonai, and EMT Mehda Singareddy responded to the request made by Middlesex County OEM and NJ EMS Task Force with A-10 (utility pickup truck) and our Medical Ambulance Bus (MAB) to assist other responding agencies from across the state to transport nearly 150 patients to 13 different facilities throughout NJ. Our responding members along with countless emergency services professionals worked tirelessly throughout the night to achieve this large coordinated mutual aid event. NBFARS MAB 15 was tasked with transporting patients to a total of 3 facilities in South Amboy, Freehold, and Neptune Township. As a charter member of the NJ EMS Taskforce and host agency for the Middlesex County OEM MAB 15, we at NBFARS are honored to be an integral part of this statewide and regional response framework. The NJ EMS Medical Ambulance Bus (MAB) Task Force consists of 20 MAB units throughout the state and serves as one of the nation’s largest fleets of Medical Ambulance Buses. Serving in this capacity allows NBFARS and our personnel the ability to assist in responding to Mass Casualty and/or Mass transport events across the state and broader region. This is just one of the many specialized operations modules which are part of the broader missions here at North Brunswick First Aid and Rescue Squad.
