Special thank you to Saylor’s mom for sharing her story with us! We love hearing about our special Bravery Beads Heroes! 3 year old Saylor checked into the Helen DeVos Emergency Department on August 16, 2022 when her chief complaint went from diarrhea to dialysis. She was diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, a rare complication that stems from E. Coli. She experienced acute kidney failure, anemia, and her blood platelets had been destroyed. Nineteen days of isolation, one central line, one tunnel catheter, nine rounds of dialysis, three blood transfusions, twenty three blood draws, and four IV’s later…Saylor’s condition finally turned a corner! Her kidneys began to recover and she no longer requires dialysis. Saylor is doing better, but still struggles with high blood pressure. She has earned 119 bravery beads, and is my number 1 hero! #braverybeads (fb)
