TGF was established in 2004 to gather resources, educate, empower, and network to improve the health and well-being of African Americans living in Orange County and neighboring counties. Since its inception, TGF has preserved its grassroots origins while expanding its programs to address cancers; (breast, cervical, colon, lung and prostate), obesity and the importance of physical activity and overall well-being. The G.R.E.E.N. Foundation (TGF) continues to seek opportunities to collaborate with existing organizations to better serve the African American population.   The G.R.E.E.N. Foundation mission statement is Gathering Resources to Educate and Empower through Networks. This is accomplished through collaboration, promoting the importance of early detection of chronic health issues that highly impact African Americans (i.e. cancers, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, nutrition, and healthy living through daily decisions and spirituality). The purpose of the organization to improve the overall health status of African American communities, to build an inclusive, caring community of healthy women and families. African Americans have the highest incidence rates in heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, hypertension and kidney diseases. (CDC, Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities -February 10, 2014). According, American Cancer Society to reduce mortality rates early detection through screenings play a key role along with empowering people to make healthier daily decisions.
